New Heaven and Earth

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.” Revelation 21:1

“Heaven” comes from a root word meaning “to cover” or “encompass”. There are multiple meanings of heaven; (a) the visible heavens: the atmosphere, the sky, the starry heavens, (b) the spiritual heavens. “Earth” comes from a primary word meaning the earth, soil, land,  region, country, inhabitants of a region. “Sea” comes from a primary root word meaning (a) the sea, in contrast to the land, (b) a particular sea or lake, e.g. the sea of Galilee (Tiberias), the Red Sea. “Passed away” comes from the preposition ἀπό (apo, meaning "from") and the verb ἔρχομαι (erchomai, meaning "to come" or "to go"). 

“For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in that which I create; for behold, I create Jerusalem to be a joy, and her people to be a gladness. I will rejoice in Jerusalem and be glad in my people; no more shall be heard in it the sound of weeping and the cry of distress.” Isaiah 65:17-19

I think that these verses share the hope that we can hold on to when it comes to our last days. There will be no more disruption or distress, just Jesus and his people. We should not be worried, because if you are prepared in your relationship with God you are assured of your destination. Have you thought about what the new earth and heaven will look like?
